Dollywood Sunday

We spent all day at Dollywood on Sunday. Riding roller coasters, as usual, was the first order of the day.

A big part of this amusement park is based on craftsmen showing off what they can do. Betty and Karen found this buckboard to ride.

Doug and Betty had tickets to see Dolly Parton in concert at 2pm. We left them about 1:30pm and on to the water rides we went.

Our first ride was on a flexible log that went down a fiberglass chute that you see at most water parks. One of the logs got stuck half way down, when we were next in line, and we had to wait 20 minutes before we could take our turn. We got wet.

We headed for the Splashwater Falls ride and IT was not running. We hung around for 20 minutes and finally got on it. This is a big boat about the size of the Pirates of the Caribbean boats that goes down a roller coaster-like drop and splashes into the water putting up a big spray of water. We got wetter.

Our last water ride was on the "giant inner tube with seats" ride. It goes around a concrete river with 5 foot drops and the water pours in the side and you get wet. We got the wettest on this one.

It was a much hotter day than Saturday so we appreciated the cooling affect of the water.

Dolly came outside after her stage performance to dedicate a plaque to a friend of hers, Dottie Rambo, who died earlier this year in a bus accident.

We ended the day at a fairly good 55 minute musical stage show. It seems that half of the performers in the shows we saw in two days were great. The others were so-so.

Dinner was at Doug's favorite catfish location - Huck Finn's in Pigeon Forge. He let me try some and it actually tasted good.

Pat & Karen:

Glad you're enjoying Dollywood. I spent 8 days in Pigeon Forge on two different trips there for a Ford truck show and enjoyed my first Krispy Kreme donut there. There's a neat ice skating rink up on the mountain at the far end of town (opposite of Sieverville).

As you may have read, we had a fabulous time in Nicaragua.

Re: the GPS, does it have a "tracking" feature? It's like laying down an electronic breadcrumb. That track, when loaded back into the mapping software displays where you've been.

Sorry for the tech info, I'm fully engaged in preparations for teaching GPS' at a motorcycle rally in Stevenson this coming weekend.

Enjoy your trip.
