Finding Past Friends

Our previous cruise on the Delta Queen was in 2000. Even though there were only 175 (174, Karen keeps telling me!) passengers on board we still needed a cruise director. His memorable name was Jazzou Jones. He was a one-man entertainment tour-de-force. He played in the jazz band, piano, and the calliope. You could tell that here was a man that loved his job. He's retired now, but I found a message he wrote on a website I visit a few days ago. It was good to hear from him and to know that he is still performing for his church and occasionally on a river boat up in Maine.

We had this young-ish looking captain - Captain Gabe. He was gracious and likeable and accessible. He also played the calliope. After 30 years of piloting the various river boats he, too, has retired. He was back on the DQ a few weeks ago reminiscing about the special-ness of the DQ and his fingers once again found the keys of the beautifully sounding calliope.

Here is a link to Bill Wiemuth's blog about Gabe's visit on the DQ.

Karen and Pat,
I'm so glad you enjoyed my post about Captain Gabe's visit to the Delta Queen. Thanks for the promotion, but I would really prefer a link to the article instead of copying over my writing.
